The Ultimate Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior is an example of the use of linguistics. This video shows that words alone do not created meaning. The meaning from words is also derived through the placement of the words used and the expression used to emphasize certain points. The wrestler in the video does not say the words in the sentences that were used but when scattered about the phrases and structure can become disheveled and form different meaning. This example, although humorous, is a perfect way to show that semantics and syntactic differences exist across cultures.
High Fivers must be aware of the words they use as well as the placement of those words and the stress points in the sentences. Being aware of these important yet easily overlooked structures of speech can lead to better communication across cultural boundaries such as generational gaps and socioeconomic differences.
